Dankook University won its first battle……
VISITING Dankook University displayed the stuff they are made off with a 90-80 victory against City College of Manila (Universidad de Maynila) kicking off hostilities in the 7th Asian University Basketball Championship - Prospero Pichay Cup Friday night at the San Andres Gym in Manila.
Joh Sang-ryul lit up the scoring chart with 31 points as he went unstoppable all night long to give the Korean squad its first win in this five day tournament organized by Basketball Association of the Philippines (BAP) and sanction by the Asian University Basketball Federation in cooperation with the City of Manila.
Kim Song-kyu added 15 points while seven of the total eight players used for this game barged in the scoring column to highlight the team’s impressive start.
Jaymar Marte had 17 points to lead five players in double digits for the losing team being supported by BAP President Prospero Pichay who is also the Chairman of the Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA).
UCAAP champion from Pangasinan – University of Luzon joined Dankook University in the win column with an 81-74 decision against national PRISAA champion Western Visayas University Selection in the other game.
AUBF president Korean basketball legend Shin Dong Pa joined BAP president and tournament honoree Pichay as the guest of honor as they extolled on the players to display sportsmanship even as they are expected to go all out for victories in the tournament with Wilson basketball as the official ball.
